John Galliano once again goes back to the archives of the House of Dior for his inspirations, offering beautiful, whimsical, feminine looks that remind you of classic Dior without replicating it outright. This time, Galliano paid homage to renowned fashion illustrator René Gruau who worked closely with Christian Dior as one of the best known and favorite artists of the haute couture world during the 1940s and 50s. Galliano evoked fashion illustration feel by reproducing the kind of shading one saw in mid-century illustration directly on the clothes themselves, so that many of the outfits are several shades of the same color, going from light to dark. We love the drama of the show, which was presented at the Musée Rodin on the Left Bank in Paris. We also love the rich red, and greens, as well as the greys and pale blues. A lovely and sophisticated palette. But mostly, we're just suckers for this kind of modern take on the glamorous and extremely feminine styles of the mid 20th Century.
